Support Sato Matsui in her fight with cancer
From Joana Genova and Jenny Dewar Joana: Sato is a dear friend and an extraordinary composer. She was my violin student at Williams College, got her Master’s degree and Doctorate in Composition at The Juilliard School in NYC, and received a Fullbright Scholarship to study at Schola Cantorum de Paris. Jenny: Sato is as close to a daughter as I have ever had. She has been in my life since her first day of college 17 years ago and I am “mormor” to her daughter, Misaki. She is an incredibly special human. Sato lives in Paris with her husband and one-year old baby girl. About a month ago she was diagnosed with a rare form of follicular lymphoma, a cancer that affects the lymphatic system and immune cells. Although it is known to be a slow-growing cancer, it was unfortunately diagnosed at stage 3 and is already widespread. She is expected to start chemotherapy treatment (CHOP) in October and it will last approximately six months. Follicular lymphoma generally responds very well to chemotherapy but unfortunately it is chronic and likely to recur in perpetuity translating to a lifelong battle. During the treatment Sato will most likely not be able to teach at the Conservatoire Erik Satie and while most medical costs are covered in France, we hope to be able to raise enough money to help with daycare for her daughter, rent, daily cost of life, and some peace of mind. Thank you all for your donations! You can look up Sato’s music on Spotify or You Tube.
